How did Baby in Mind Psychology Services start?

We met working as colleagues in separate Community Mental Health Recovery Teams in the NHS in 2015.

We started working more closely whilst working for the NHS Specialist perinatal mental health team.
Together, we have developed a passion for working with women and men in the perinatal period and decided to expand our knowledge and expertise into private practice.

About us

Who we are

Dr Irene Svendsen
I am a Perinatal Psychologist with seventeen years of experience working in numerous NHS mental health settings including, Perinatal Mental Health, Specialist Psychology Services, and Adult Community Mental Health Recovery Services.

It is important to me that you feel safe and contained within therapy in order to explore your difficulties. I use a warm, transparent and informal approach to therapy and see our therapeutic relationship as teamwork. You are the expert on you, and I bring the psychology.  In my experience it is this collaborative approach which has helped clients to find ways forward through the toughest of times.

I will always be guided by you in where the therapeutic work needs to lie. I will create a formulation with you which helps to ‘tell the story’ of your difficulties and begin to identify areas where therapeutic change can be explored.

I use an integrative therapeutic approach including Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), Compassionate Focussed Therapy (CFT), Cognitive behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy skills-based work. My practice is based in Haslemere, Hampshire.

Dr Tanya Corker
I am an experienced perinatal clinical psychologist with over 15 years experience of working in the NHS, both in community perinatal mental health teams and in adult community mental health recovery services.

I draw upon a range of therapeutic models according to an individual’s difficulties, what they wish to focus on or what they would like to change.  I offer a period of initial assessment which explores current difficulties and considers contextual and background factors which may be influencing these current issues. I then use a formulation to draw together all the information from the assessment and provide a framework to understand how difficulties may have developed and how they are being maintained.  From the formulation, it often becomes clear as to the model of therapeutic intervention that may be most helpful. I work integratively according to the needs of the client, drawing from psychological models such as Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Eye movement desensitisation Therapy (EMDR), systemic, concepts from psychodynamic psychotherapy and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT)-a more relational based therapy.

I offer 1:1 work with either parent and also offer couple’s therapy sessions. My practice is based in Farnham, Surrey.
